BoiseIf you’re suffering from unrelieved back pain, it might be time to see a chiropractor. Evidence is mounting that chiropractic is a particularly effective treatment for back pain, according to lead chiropractor and clinical director Dr. Deed Harrison of Ideal Spine Health Center in Eagle, Boise and Meridian, Idaho.

  1. Consider this analysis conducted by Optum, the giant health-care comglomerate, over a two-year span. According to Optum’s data, patients had “14.7 million non-surgical spinal episodes” – in other words, spinal problems that did not lead to surgery. Optum projected a savings of $1.3 billion had those patients seen a chiropractor at onset of the problem.Since then, Optum has developed a chiropractic care program that is focused on educating members about treatment options, including chiropractic care.
  2. Richard Sarnat, M.D., conducted a study with outcomes similar to the Optum analysis. Sarnat’s was based on 10 years of data from Blue Cross/Blue Shield. His team concluded, “The regular utilization of chiropractic could reduce the need for hospitalization, pharmaceutical usage and overall global health care costs by almost 50 percent.”
  3. Chiropractic has been an official benefit for active duty military personnel since the Defense Authorization Act of 2001. As of December 2013, 60 military bases had a doctor of chiropractic as contract or hired staff as well as 40 VA facilities.
  4. All 32 NFL teams and 27 of 30 Major League Baseball teams have an official team chiropractor. In addition, the Olympic polyclinic employed 28 chiropractors during the 2012 Olympic Games in London.[space height=”20″]

Most states require an undergraduate degree plus four years of professional study to become a chiropractor. A one-year residency is also required. Chiropractors pass a national and then a state board exam to become “board certified.”

In most cases, back problems are caused by spinal misalignments, or vertebrae that have shifted out of position. Misalignments can occur in a variety of ways, from poor posture to accidents and injuries – or sometimes simply bending down to tie your shoelace. Chiropractic corrects these misalignments, which affect more than your bones, muscles, ligaments, and discs. Misalignments affect your nervous system, as well.

The misalignments can exert excessive pressure on the delicate nerves flowing out of the spine, interfering with their ability to pass messages back and forth to the brain.  Without proper nerve energy, body systems may experience dysfunction.

The effect is much like a hose with a kink in it, or a car with wheels that are out of alignment. Simply put, your body loses its ability to function at peak efficiency.

One of the best ways to eliminate nerve interference is to realign the spine back to its correct shape, taking pressure off the delicate nerves in the neck and back using Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP), one of the most researched and results-oriented corrective care techniques in the world.

Only a small percentage of dedicated chiropractors are certified to practice this technique. At Ideal Spine Health Center in Eagle, Boise and Meridian, Idaho, we specialize in Chiropractic BioPhysics. In fact, Ideal Spine’s Deed Harrison is the preeminent authority on spinal health and CBP.
